Through VVCC's Guardian Angel Program, older adults are loaned medical alert units with the ability to call for help with just the click of a button. Wanda, 87, who lives in Cottonwood, is a new VVCC neighbor who has problems with dizzy spells that have attributed to her falling. Her daughter says, "I feel better knowing my mother can press that button and call me if she needs help."

Point Wildfire near Sedona/VOC expands to 190 acres
SEDONA - The lightning-caused Point Wildfire is currently burning in Munds Mountain Wilderness on Munds mesa, which is located east of State Highway 179 and south of Sedona and Schnebly Hill road, about 2.5 miles east/southeast of Sedona. Point Wildfire near Sedona/VOC expands to 190 acres
SEDONA - The lightning-caused Point Wildfire is currently burning in Munds Mountain Wilderness on Munds mesa, which is located east of State Highway 179 and south of Sedona and Schnebly Hill road, about 2.5 miles east/southeast of Sedona. The fire that began July 20 is estimated at 190 acres and was ignited following several lightning storms that came through the area mid-week.

Jack Rider sentenced for Krystil Wilson drowning
Jack Rider, the man who was charged, five years after she died, with drowning 22-year old Kristal Wilson, at Camp Verde's Beasley Flats July 19, 2007, has now been sentenced to prison four years later still. Rider will serve 18 year "flat" sentence-that is, without early release--less 159 days already served.

The News from Clarkdale, AZ: July 4, 2016
Well, it's been a quiet week in Clarkdale, my little home town at the foot of Mingus Mountain. Monday was the big Fourth of July celebration in town, which kicked off with the fire and police pancake breakfast at 7 and the Raising of the Colors by the VFW and a speech from the mayor, Doug Von Gausig, and a singer, Marie Jarreau, at the gazebo in Town Park, and all this before 9 a.m.

$745,000 in improvements to Clemenceau building to be completed by new school year
COTTONWOOD - Restoration work is underway on the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District office building. Perhaps better known as the Clemenceau Building, the district's bond allocated $745,000 for upgrades to both the interior and exterior of the structure that was built in 1928.

Well, it's been a quiet week in Clarkdale, my little home town at the foot of Mingus Mountain. Monday was the big Fourth of July celebration in town, which kicked off with the fire and police pancake breakfast at 7 and the Raising of the Colors by the VFW and a speech from the mayor, Doug Von Gausig, and a singer, Marie Jarreau, at the gazebo in Town Park, and all this before 9 a.m.
