Cottonwood to save more than $1.5 million by refinancing debt
COTTONWOOD -- The Cottonwood City Council in mid-July approved a loan to refinance its 2007-GADA bonds at an interest rate that will save taxpayers nearly $1.5 million. The bond rating service, Standard and Poor's has given the new bond series an "AA-" rating. As defined by S&P: "An obligation rated 'AA' differs from the highest-rated obligations only to a small degree. The obligor's capacity to meet its financial commitment on the obligation is very strong."

Camp Verde home fire leaves one person dead
CAMP VERDE - A fire in Verde Lakes left one unidentified person dead and a home completely destroyed Monday night. At 7:44 p.m. Aug. 8, Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority firefighters were dispatched to Clinton Lane in Camp Verde for a report of a house fire, according to a statement from Copper Canyon Fire Chief Terry Keller.

The caller told deputies he was driving home and saw tiny girl lying by herself in the roadway, wrapped in a blanket and holding a pillow. She was wearing a diaper and no other clothing.
